June Forest Progression DAY FIVE
More warmth...I wanted it to feel like the sun is shining...
I used small brushes and gave the tree edges some shadow, lines and texture. You have to look close to see the changes I made today, but they do make a difference. Almost done.

June Forest Progression DAY FOUR

I spent a lot of time today looking at the painting as it is now and comparing it to my original idea which was this sketch done in water color pencils.
I've definitely decided I'm not done yet.... but I'm very close.
More to come. Next will be a little more warmth.

June Forest Progression DAY THREE
Today, I decided most of the trees were too wide and not quite vertical enough. I repainted most of the sky and made the trees taller and thinner. I like it much better this way because it seems like the trees are actually going somewhere. It's growing.

June Forest Progression DAY ONE
I started a new large painting yesterday. It will be a forest, and since it is now June, I'm going to call it June Forest. Not my most creative title for a painting.
So far I have leaves on the ground and sky. I used a lot of purple for the shadowy part of the forest floor and imagined it was laughing while I painted it. I added red next, because the purple needed a bright color to dance with. I'll photograph this one as I paint it to show it's progression.

Confetti Forests
![]() |
Confetti Forest I by Cheryl Harris White 11" x 13" Acrylic on Canvas |
Don't these 2 paintings just feel like the trees are having a party?... The leaves look like confetti on the forest floor and balloons floating toward the sky.
While I was painting these I asked myself the question, "If the forest trees were to throw a party, what might they be trying to celebrate?"

I thought of Isaiah 55:8 - 13 . . .
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. 12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. 13 Instead of the thorn bush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the LORD’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.”

Three Crosses: A story told in Art
Luke 23:32-43 gives us the account of the crucifiction of Christ between two thieves. I was inspired to create three crosses illustrating this. One of the robbers was drawn toward Christ, the other rejected him. The cross on the left illustrates the bitter robber, visually leaning away, almost repelled by Jesus. The center cross represents Christ, and the cross to the right is for the forgiven sinner. I added bright golden yellow bits of light on his cross forshadowing his entrance into paradise after his life here was finished.
Set of 3 Crosses

32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”
38 There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Here are two more crosses I just completed. I call the left one, Long -Suffering because it was one I started and then didn't finish until much later after a lot of time and struggling and "do overs". Some pieces are just like that. When I look at it, I'm just glad it is finished.
The one on the right is called Bloom Like A Rose. I did the whole thing in about 30 minutes and it just seemed to almost come together by itself. It almost felt alive and I just had to watch it grow. When I look at this one, I feel happy.
If I had to choose one painting to be like, I'd choose to bloom like a rose.
